Ah, Humanity!

81 years ago today the human propensity for violence as a means of settling disagreements reached a new low. History is full of factual recountings of how bloodshed is a virtual birthright for our species. Skulls found on digs show puncture wounds on it. Blunt force trauma. The first such skull dates back as far as 200,000 years. What object was used to dispatch this once living human could not have been very sophisticated. But it got that job done!

Getting back to on this date 81 years ago, human kind then demonstated how much bigger and more efficient we had become at settling a disagrement. The atomic bomb was created to cause massive amounts of death and destruction. Why would we build? Uh, it’s a human thing and what else can be said? So, 100,000 or so mostly civilians were incinerated or died a slow, painful exit due to radiation poisoning. Then, when it was decided the disagreement had not yet been settled to compete satisfaction, another atomic bomb was dropped. Another 100,000 or so dead.

And now, eighty one years later, humans still have nuclear weapons but more than one killer has them. Many more potential killers are out there. None dare challenge the atom bomb killer. Apparently. I think some would like to. Yes, BUT, that one was crazy enough to use it once.

But bullies need to be challenged. Good luck with that. Because human beings are still running the show, in the BiG Big Picture. Bullies are born, not made. No matter what. What a species!

I have several times tried the find the office wherein I can officially resign from the human race, but it is nowhere to be found. So I keep thinking of the song What’s so crazy about peace love and understanding? Written by and performed by a human being. Keep hope alive.

Try being less human?
